Introduction to Sashiko

Running stitch is the basis for all Sashiko. The way in which the running stitches are arranged gives each Sashiko design a distinctive look.

In this workshop you will learn the basics of Japanese Shashiko embroidery. You will become familiar with the fabric and tools for this type of stitching and create a sampler of different Sashiko designs.

The art of visible mending

1.30pm to 4.30pm. Cost $40

Visible mending embodies the values of slow fashion. It’s about working with what you have, embracing imperfection, fixing what is broken, and turning them into something personal to you.

Visible mending is inspired by the Japanese art of Boro where fabric is layered, patched and embellished with a series of Sashiko stitches to reinforce the patchwork.

In this workshop you will learn visible mending techniques and create a Boro-inspired project to take home.
